Sailing:

Unplug, unwind, and relax with only the sounds of the wind through the sails and the hull slicing through the bluest waters on earth. Sample some local dishes while we bring you a tropical drink, and let us do the sailing. If you’re an experienced sailor, you are welcome to take the helm, trim the sails and plot your own course.

Snorkeling:

The Kona coast is famous for our year-round calm, clear, tropical water. We can take you to uncrowded, unspoiled, coral reefs teaming with colorful fish. We provide all your snorkel gear including a selection of prescription masks, flotation devices and a warm freshwater shower and towel when you’re ready to get out of the water.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding:

We keep two soft top Stand-up Paddle Boards on the boat at all times. While we are secured to a mooring for snorkeling is a great time to try this if you haven’t already done so. It’s great exercise and you can explore the shoreline. We ask that you don’t go to far. We like to keep an eye on our guest for safety reasons.

Fishing:

Our idea of fishing on the Moana is trolling lures behind the boat in hopes of catching fish such as Ono (Wahoo), Mahi Mahi (Dorado), and Ahi (Tuna). No license required. We keep the fishing gear on board so if you want to fish while we’re sailing, just let us know.

Whales and Dolphin:

Humpback Whales arrive in Hawaii every year from approximately December thru March. They travel from Alaska to Hawaii to mate and also to give birth. Its always amazing to see these magnificent mammals jumping and playing in our local waters. We have several different species of Dolphin that call Hawaii their home. Most commonly we encounter Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins. The Spinner Dolphin are a smaller, nocturnal Dolphin that rest close to shore during the day and the bottlenose dolphin are sometimes spotted with them.

Sunset Sail:

Sunset sails in Hawaii are famous for a reason. There are no sounds from a motor or civilization, and nothing between you and the sun except sea and sky. There is no better place to watch the sun disappear into the Pacific every evening. We provide drinks and Pupus (appetizers).

Our Boat “Moana”

Moana is the Polynesian word for Ocean or wide expanse of water. It is also a famous Disney movie that came out in 2016. Our boat Moana is a gorgeous forty-foot, navy blue, Beneteau 393. She was designed by the French naval architects Berret/Racoupeau Yacht Design and built in Marion South Carolina, USA. She is a very comfortable, spacious and fast yacht sure to please the most scrupulous of sailors. Moana’s roomy interior is well lit and has two staterooms and two heads (bathrooms). There is a full galley (kitchen) and large dinette. There is a Bluetooth stereo with interior and exterior speakers so you can choose your music. Outside she has a large cockpit with lots of comfortable seating and shade. The stern (back) is open for easy access to the ocean. There is a nice ladder to get in and out of the water. There is even a fresh water shower with hot and cold water to shower off when you get back in the boat.

Your Crew

Aloha, your captain will always be myself, Tim. You can call me Captain Tim, or Captain, or “Hey”. I’ll answer to all of them. I’ve been sailing all my life. It started when my older brother put me in our little eight-foot sailing dingy when I was five years old and pushed me off the dock. It was sink or swim. I ended up having to walk the dingy back along the shore but eventually I figured it out on my own. I could have saved years learning if I had taken a sailing class. Over the next forty years or so I went to college and got a degree in Mariculture (fish farming), I acquired one sailboat after another, usually the next one was bigger than the one before. I did a lot of racing with my brother. I became an ASA certified sailing instructor and acquired my Captains license. I was able to deliver boats to Hawaii, Mexico and once thru the Panama Canal. I told myself that one day I would take my time and explore the coast down to South America. In 2004 I departed from Dana Point California in my 44-foot Kelly Peterson. I spent the next two years sailing around the Pacific Ocean. On my way from Tahiti to California I stopped in Kona, Hawaii. I found some work driving boats for other companies. I did this for 7 years then started my own snorkeling company, Wahine Charters, which has been very successful. But running even a snorkeling company in Hawaii is still running a business and you get to deal with employees, bookkeeping, taxes, lawyers, insurances, resorts, etc…. Now I am downsizing. One boat, no employees. I have a crew help out on the tours but I don’t pay them. Kidding. I assure you that I can, and will take the utmost care of you, your family and friends. I look forward to meeting all of you.

Aloha

Captain Tim
