sail the coast of hawaii aboard the Moana

Our Boat Moana

Moana, meaning "ocean" or "wide expanse of water" in Polynesian, is more than just a name—it's a promise of adventure and freedom on the seas. Our forty-foot Beneteau 393, designed by renowned French naval architects Berret/Racoupeau Yacht Design and built in Marion, South Carolina, sports a striking blue sail that catches the eye as it catches the wind.

The interior of Moana is just as impressive, featuring a spacious and well-lit layout with two staterooms, two bathrooms, a full galley kitchen, and a large dinette area for comfortable dining and relaxation.

The boat's modern amenities include a Bluetooth stereo system with both interior and exterior speakers, allowing guests to select their favorite tunes as they sail. The exterior offers a large cockpit with ample seating and shade, perfect for enjoying the panoramic views. The stern provides easy access to the water, complete with a convenient ladder and a freshwater shower to rinse off after your swim. Moana is not just a boat; it's your gateway to exploring the vast waters with ease and comfort.

GET TO KNOW THE CREW

Capt. Tim Conners

I started sailing in Dana Point, California around 1970.  When I was around eight years old my brothers put me into the family’s 8 foot sailing dinghy and pushed me off the dock. I drifted across the harbor and had to walk our dinghy back along the shore. When I got back, they did it again. Eventually, I watched what other people were doing and managed to sail my way back to the dock.  Since then I’ve sailing and boating as much as I could.  I became an ASA sailing instructor, commercial fisherman, received my bachelors of science degree in Fish farming from Humboldt State University, I acquired my 100 ton USCG captains license and bought one boat after another.  In 2004 I cast off in my 44 foot Kelly Peterson sailboat and spent the next two years sailing around the Pacific.  In 2006 I left Tahiti for the 4500 mile trip back to California sailing by myself.  I stopped in Kona to resupply and visit friends. I never left.  I’ve been fortunate to make a living doing what I love to do ever since.  I started Hawaii Sailing Charters in 2018.  I look forward to “going to work” everyday.  Our Ohana looks forward to meeting you on board the “Moana” and taking you, your family and friends on a custom tailored sailing adventure that will be one of your best memories visiting Hawaii.

Mahalo and Aloha,

Captain Tim

Capt. Mckenzie Clark

Mckenzie Clark grew up in Portland, Oregon and moved to the Big Island of Hawai’i in 1998 where she began an ocean-focused life of surfing, scuba diving, free-diving, studying whales, swimming with sharks, sailing and exploring hard-to-access coastlines. She’s traveled all overthe world in search of waves, wildlife and adventure including sailing to the Galapagos and throughout the islands of French Polynesia, completing four thru-hikes, summiting mountains and surviving not just a few unexpected and character-building adventures. With extensive experience in hospitality including restaurants, resorts, private clubs and cruiseships, Mckenzie is no stranger to rubbing elbows and sharing stories with people from all walks of life. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of Hawaiian ecology and history, which she studied at the University of Hawai’i. When she is not practicing freelance photography, captaining boats on the west side of Hawai’i and zodiacs in Alaska and educating guests on the biodiversity and natural history of Hawai’i, she is exploring the globe via land or sea clad with adventure gear and camera, in search of wild nature.

First Mate Ryan

Ryan grew up in Lehi, Utah. She joined the swim team in seventh grade and competed all through high school. (Lehi happens to be where Kevin Bacon filmed footloose). One problem with Utah was that Ryan didn’t like the cold and snow, so she moved to Hawaii as soon as she could to become a surfer.   When she’s not studying for her creative writing degree, she’s out surfing, hiking, free-diving with sharks and other marine life or sailing with our guests onboard the Moana.  Ryan is really one of the nicest, sweetest people I have ever met and we are stoked to have her on board Hawaii Sail Charters.

Did I mention  Ryan makes a great Mai Tai?  You’ll have to come out with us to find out.
